Closing Your Pool

Step One - Clean Up

  1. Brush pool walls and floor. Vacuum any debris from pool bottom.
  2. Clean filter with Filter Rejuvenator™ .
  3. Lower the water if in area where water must be lowered due to freezing conditions. Drain all water from pipes, pumps, heaters, filters and other pool equipment to prevent damage due to freezing. If in mild climate where the pool is left full and uncovered, confirm with manufacturer's directions if the filtration system should continue to operate.

Step Two - Treat Water

  1. Once the water has been lowered to the proper level, you need to balance all of the chemical levels in the pool. Check the pH, total alkalinity and sanitizer levels with Checkmate 4-way test strips. Adjust the levels if necessary.*
  2. Add Glisten™ non-chlorine shock treatment (1 lb./ 10,000 gallons) to destroy organic contaminants.
  3. Add Devour™ (8 to 12 oz./ 10,000 gallons) to prevent algae growth.
  4. Add Stain Guard™ (5 oz./ 10,000 gallons) sequestering agent to protect pool from stain and scale formation.

*It is particularly important to maintain total alkalinity in the upper levels of the ideal range. The pH and total alkalinity of pool water will normally lower over a period of time due to the absence of alkaline materials. Maintaining the total alkalinity in the upper level of ideal range will compensate for the conditions and help maintain the pH in the proper range.

If in a mild climate where the pool is left uncovered with the filtration system still operating, regularly add Pool Logic® Sanitizer, Devour™ and Stain Guard™.

For your convenience, use a Pool Logic® Winter Closing Kit complete with Glisten™ non-chlorine shock treatment, Devour and Stain Guard™.

Please note: Be sure to add ONE chemical at a time and allow time for each chemical to circulate before adding another.
